GrowVation: Building an Innovation Ecosystem Where Ideas Find Their Wings

-

Every breakthrough innovation begins with an idea. Yet, for millions of talented students, great ideas often remain confined to notebooks, classrooms, or unfinished projects simply because they lack the right platform, the right team, or the right opportunity. Recognizing this challenge at an early stage of his engineering journey, Devender Singh Bohra envisioned a future where innovation would no longer depend on an individual’s background, college, or network—but solely on the quality of their ideas.

This vision gave birth to GrowVation, a startup determined to redefine how students, innovators, and industries collaborate to solve real-world problems.

Devender’s passion for innovation was evident long before launching his startup. While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering at UIET, Panjab University, he actively worked on more than twenty technical projects, published research papers, and won several business plan competitions. However, one of his most significant achievements came when he established The D-Zone, a student-led innovation community where he brought together a team of twenty aspiring engineers to collaborate on meaningful technology projects. Even after his graduation, the initiative continued under the leadership of junior students, proving that the culture of innovation he created had become self-sustaining.

Despite these achievements, Devender repeatedly encountered a common obstacle. Students with exceptional ideas struggled to find teammates possessing complementary skills. Many deserving innovators from Tier-2 and Tier-3 institutions were overlooked simply because companies focused their recruitment on a limited number of colleges. At the same time, businesses searching for fresh ideas and problem-solvers lacked efficient ways to connect with talented young innovators.

Instead of accepting these limitations, Devender saw an opportunity to build a bridge between innovation and opportunity.

Together with his co-founder Avinderpal Singh, he spent nearly a year transforming this vision into reality. Beginning full-time development in August 2018, the team worked tirelessly to create a platform that would simplify collaboration, encourage innovation, and connect students directly with industry. Their efforts culminated in the launch of GrowVation, an open innovation platform designed specifically for students, startups, educational institutions, and enterprises.

Unlike conventional professional networking platforms, GrowVation focuses entirely on innovation. Students can showcase technology projects, build portfolios, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and demonstrate their analytical and problem-solving abilities. A carefully designed engagement framework ranks projects on specialized leaderboards, allowing companies and hiring partners to identify talented innovators based on practical achievements rather than academic reputation alone.

The platform goes beyond recruitment. It enables businesses, SMEs, and enterprises to organize open innovation competitions where students and innovators can contribute solutions to real technical and business challenges. This creates a win-win ecosystem—students receive exposure, recognition, internships, and career opportunities, while organizations gain access to fresh ideas capable of driving future growth.

At its core, GrowVation is built on the belief that innovation should never be restricted by geography or institutional reputation. Whether a student belongs to a premier university or a small engineering college, every innovative idea deserves equal visibility and every talented individual deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.

Like every startup, GrowVation’s journey involved difficult choices. Believing wholeheartedly in their vision, the founding team made the bold decision to leave secure jobs and dedicate themselves entirely to building the platform. Navigating market awareness, refining the business model, and validating user needs demanded continuous learning, but strong mentorship from programs such as iB Hubs Startup School and IIM Bangalore Launchpad helped shape the company’s growth strategy.

The startup’s innovative approach has already earned recognition through prestigious achievements, including being among the Top 13 Startups at the Chandigarh Innovation Challenge, winning First Prize at Times App Search 2019, and recognition at Udyami 2019.

Looking toward the future, GrowVation envisions becoming the world’s leading open innovation ecosystem. The company plans to onboard engineering institutions across India before expanding internationally through global innovation contests and industry collaborations. For Devender, however, the vision extends even further. He dreams of creating a platform that contributes solutions to humanity’s biggest challenges—even imagining a future where ideas generated through GrowVation help build sustainable cities on Mars.

GrowVation is more than a technology platform; it is a movement that empowers innovators to believe in their ideas, collaborate without boundaries, and transform creativity into real-world impact. It stands as a testament to the belief that when talent meets opportunity, innovation becomes limitless.
