By Sanjay Jayantilal Raval,
My name is Sanjay Jayantilal Raval, and my entrepreneurial journey is not one that began with a business background. It began with learning, responsibility and a disciplined lifestyle that shaped my mindset over the years. I completed my B.Sc., and during my education I learned three qualities that unknowingly became the pillars of my future – curiosity, sincerity and precision. I moved into the financial sector and spent 17 years building a stable and well-established career. Life was smooth, predictable and secure. Many people would have been satisfied in such a phase, but there was always a voice inside me that wanted to build something of my own. I admired entrepreneurship, but like many people, I also carried the fear of stepping out of comfort. However, there came a point when I realized that dreams require courage, not ideal timing. I decided to take the boldest step of my life and start fresh at the age of 40.
Before launching my own business, I chose not to rely on assumptions or shortcuts. I wanted to understand the furniture industry from the ground level. So, I worked for two years managing a furniture store, observing real customer behaviour, market demands and product quality standards. This experience opened my eyes to the emotional connection people have with their living and working spaces. Furniture was not just a product – it was a part of their lifestyle. People did not want whatever was available; they wanted what felt personal, comfortable and aligned with their taste and budget. Those two years were the training ground that gave me clarity for the future and the confidence to build something valuable for society.
In 2015, I finally launched Shubham Furniture & Home Décor in Surendranagar, and by 2017, I shifted the business to Ahmedabad to grow further in a bigger market. It was not easy to enter an industry where well-known brands had already created strong customer loyalty. But I wanted my brand to stand for something that bigger brands could not always offer – high-quality customized furniture at a fair price, with direct personal involvement in every customer’s requirement. Over time, this identity became our strength.
Today my business offers a wide range of furniture for both homes and offices. For homes, we provide bedroom sets, dining sets, sofa sets, Kurlon mattresses, modular kitchens, customized curtains, wallpapers, stretch ceilings, weather-proof garden furniture and Zulas. On the office side, we specialize in ergonomic comfort and are exclusive dealers of HOF, a trusted brand known for its health-supportive revolving chairs. We also offer conference tables, office sofas, workstations and bar chairs. The biggest advantage we offer is flexibility – everything is available both readymade and fully customized, depending on the customer’s preference, measurements and budget. It is this blend of customization, comfort and reliability that has shaped the reputation of Shubham Furniture & Home Décor.
Our customers come from many sectors: new homeowners, interior designers, architects, startups, hotels, cafés, jewellery showrooms and PMC firms. We deliver across Ahmedabad and have also completed projects across Gujarat. What makes me proud is that most of our growth has come through mouth publicity, not through large-scale advertising. When a customer returns to purchase again or refers a friend or colleague, that is the real achievement for me. In fact, one of my most satisfying milestones has been supplying furniture to Ikea, which reflects the quality and commitment my business promises.
Competition is an unavoidable part of any business. My biggest competitor is the global brand Ikea itself. But instead of trying to imitate them, I focused on differentiation. Ikea is well-known for ready-made affordable furniture, so I developed my USP around personalization. Many of our customers show us designs from websites such as Shutterstock or social media, and our team brings those designs to life exactly the way they imagine. When customers see their dream concept becoming a real furniture piece, the emotional satisfaction they experience becomes our strongest marketing power.
As a leader, I strongly believe that a company grows only when its team grows. That is why I encourage a work environment where learning is continuous. The culture at Shubham Furniture & Home Décor is built around skill upgradation, discipline and collaboration. We operate from 9:30 AM to 7 PM, which ensures professionalism as well as personal time. I never stop learning myself. Even after achieving stability in business, I continue to upgrade my knowledge of new materials, technologies and trends. In fact, I am currently exploring AI to understand how technology will shape the future of every industry, including ours. Learning is not just a tool for progress – it has become my habit.
The journey was never free from challenges. The hardest challenge was walking away from the comfort of a 17-year job and restarting life in a field where I had no formal background. There were moments of pressure, uncertainty and fear of whether the decision was right. But every time I doubted myself, I reminded myself that comfort never creates growth. I faced every difficulty through patience, smart work and a firm belief that good work ultimately brings good results. Today, when I look back, I feel grateful that I did not stop myself from trying.
My work has earned me several recognitions, including the Vyapar Jagat Award for Best Furniture Product. I also had the opportunity to serve as President of ZALAWAD Federation of Trade & Industries (Ahmedabad Chapter) and Co-Convenor of Vishwa Gujarati Samaj Yuva Sangathan. Awards and titles feel good, but I do not measure success through them. For me, the real success is self-satisfaction – knowing that I have given my best, delivered quality and earned customer trust.
My goals for the future are clear and ambitious. I aim to achieve a turnover of ₹2 crore by March 2026 and ₹5 crore during 2026–27, and eventually grow into one of India’s leading online furniture suppliers. I want every customer, no matter where they live, to be able to design their spaces comfortably and beautifully with our support. As India evolves and homes transform into personalized lifestyle statements, the demand for thoughtfully designed furniture will only rise – and I want Shubham Furniture & Home Décor to be at the forefront of that change.
Outside my business life, I make time for family and social circles. Interaction with people keeps my mind fresh and active. My biggest inspiration has been Jay Vasavada, whose thoughts push me to think widely, stay humble and keep evolving in life. The biggest lesson life has taught me is that success requires both hard work and smart work – both are important, and the skill lies in choosing the right balance at the right time.
To all the young entrepreneurs and dreamers, I have a simple message – be ready to learn new technologies and implement them fearlessly in your work. The world changes fast, and growth belongs to those who evolve. Do not wait for perfect timing; take the first step even if the path looks unfamiliar. Entrepreneurship is not about never falling – it is about having the courage to rise again and again. Your journey will not be easy, but it will definitely be meaningful if you move forward with belief, learning and honesty.
My business is more than a profession. It is a journey of courage, self-belief and commitment to delivering comfort to people’s lives. From a secure 17-year financial career to building a respected furniture brand in Gujarat, my story proves that age is never a barrier to building a dream. Growth begins the moment you choose courage over comfort – and that is how Shubham Furniture & Home Décor was born.
