Nisha Tagra, a women entrepreneur and founder of FancyDressKart and Co-Founder of Edify Minds Junior is passionate about the holistic development of a child and helps schools, corporates, and RWA’s in organizing their annual events and festivals. She is an MBA in marketing from JIMS Delhi and Diploma in fashion designing from IIFT, Delhi. She has also worked with corporates before starting her venture.
Entrepreneurship was never on her mind and she was enjoying her corporate world. Then as every woman goes through the life phase, so she also got married and had to leave her job and settle down in homemaking. She has
blessed with her first child in 2008 and in 2011 her child started his schooling. As the pre-schools expose kids to various learning concepts through role play, the child was expected to come dressed up in related themes. She searched for unconventional dresses but she could find only typical old dresses, that too untidy and soiled. Such ready-made theme-based dresses were hard to find in the market. So, she started designing unfamiliar and creative costumes for her kids and also provided creative props. Every time her kids came with flying colours.
She also experimented with this idea on her husband and herself in the “Spring Walk” competition and they were awarded the first prize. So, over the period, she realized that other parents also face the same problem of the unavailability of innovative dresses and props for their children’s school events. Also, in the market, there was no single-stop solution for all these fancy-dress items. This was an unorganized sector and, in the market, only fixed orthodox designs were available, and dresses available at rental shops were untidy and unpleasant. Ultimately the work which was started as a necessity later became her venture in 2016 when her younger son started his schooling.
Her venture
Her venture provides creative dresses, props, and accessories in a single “Magic Box”. Easy availability of original and unfamiliar dresses at the customer’s doorstep reduces parents’ search time. Their dresses are spotless, steam-ironed, and hygienically packed. Her venture also aims at organizing this sector. She also facilitates the schools from planning to execution for their entire year’s events.
She started in August 2016 with an initial investment of Rs. 10000/- and provided costume solutions to her residential society for “Krishna Janmashtami” and “Dandiya Night”. A positive response from the RWA, parents, and schools motivated her to invest further. She has also provided annual function solutions to three schools and has a clientele of approximately 200 parents.
Her work speaks for Nisha. The parents are her marketeer and our marketing happens through word of mouth and various WhatsApp groups.
In the future, she plans to start selling her solution of “Magic Box” through an e-commerce platform to cover broader geographies. For this, she is working at the backend to create the database and also with a logistics partner for the delivery of products.
She has initiated another venture “EdifyMinds Junior” wherein she is addressing another pain area of parents i.e., “poor understanding of mathematics in kids”. To help kids in math she has started online concept building classes. The concept building is done through various games and quizzes. EdifyMinds Junior prepares the child for various Olympiads. It also focuses on logical reasoning, Mental math, and Vedic Math to develop the analytical skills of a child.
