Pooja is the Co-founder of Skill2Gether. Over the last 7 years, she has multitasked and gracefully juggled between work and motherhood. Her experience includes working in Real Estate, E-Commerce, and bringing up an adorable baby girl!
But as she chose the route towards motherhood, like many other mothers she decided to take a break from her career and be with her tiny one full-time. However, as soon as she was 2.5 years old and started going to preschool, she knew it was time to restart my career.
Being a mom of a lovable daughter, it genuinely takes plenty to restart your profession in the corporate world. And that too when your daughter is not too geared up to go away from you even for an hour. That’s when she decided to live her passion and spread her love for it.
If her friends from college had to describe her in one sentence, it would be “Dancing through exams and assignments”. Dancing to her is therapy. So, when she moved cities from Mumbai to Pune, with new goals and aspirations, she decided to start her own Dance classes during the two hours when her daughter goes to school. Clueless about how to start with, she started with networking within her society and trying to spread the word. It took two whole months for her to convey the dance and Zumba classes to the members of her society.
Finally, after a lot of networking and marketing, she received a few enrolments and started from her living room. As we grew and the number of students increased, she moved these classes to the society’s club house. It all went smoothly until her husband’s office relocated to the other side of the city. With no option left, she had to shut classes and move houses from one side of the city to the other.
How did it all start?
However, relocating to a new place meant starting from scratch all the way again. With no existing network or portfolio, it was demotivating that all her previous hard work towards her dance class was now in vain. Even though she was willing to start all over again, she faced two new problems:
- Most of the residents were working full-time and had little inclination towards learning something new.
- This building was relatively small, lacked a clubhouse where she could network with other residents.
So she spoke to her friends and acquaintances about where to market and the way to go about it. Then they realized that many of them wanted to start from their own but due to lack of help and guidance system, they were back in normal employment.
This is just when she wished that there were some resource or platform that would help her in micro-networking within her vicinity and similar passion. While platforms like Facebook and Instagram existed for her to market her, most of the time she felt lost between the crowd. Thus, having a micro-networking platform would be of great help to kick-start businesses without losing any goodwill even if we relocate.
With learning in hand and a plan to restart dance classes later, she decided to join a company as a full time Job. Got an opportunity and joined “Collab Solutions Pvt. Ltd.” where she got exposure to marketplaces and e-commerce portals. During this period, she learned how such a portal helps your business to grow and manage efficiently.
Had the privilege of interacting with some Mompreneurs, who manage their home business with the family. Based on their challenges like Limited reach, managing business operations, online presence, and her experience, she decided to work on this aspect in a bigger way and started working on a platform that could take care of all these issues while starting and growing a skill-based business.
