Dr. Chandra Prasad’s Education

Dr. Chandra graduated from Bangalore University in Home Science obtaining 9th rank and Gold medal in 1980 and joined the Mysore University at Manasagangothri for her MSc. After marriage, she started serving the Intellectually Disabled. She completed her D.M.R. from the National Institute of Mentally Handicapped, Secundrabad with First Class in 1990 and a B.Ed degree from Annamalai University in 1992.

Dr. Chandra’s Social Work

Dr. Chandra has also received an honorary doctorate for Social Work Chandra Prasad being the co-founder runs “Pathway” centre for Rehabilitation & Education of Intellectually Disabled, Chennai – 41 is based in an urban area which is a leading NGO established in 1975, recognized by the state and central governments, and dedicated to the cause of Intellectually disabled and poor children and adults. She also runs the other two centres in rural areas known as PAMELA MARTINEZ/PATHWAY Agro Farm For Children named after its donor is located in a large 60-acre agro farm in Agili, Madhuranthakam Taluk, Chengalpattu District. This agro farm houses a large orphanage to more than 200 children, running an English medium Matriculation Residential school, recognized by the Directorate of Matriculation Schools, Govt. of Tamil Nadu.

The children are offered high-class facilities such as swimming, yoga, music, good recreational facilities, quality education, and total medical care. The third centre is known as SABIN PATHWAY Home for Persons with Intellectual Disability and Associated Conditions which was dedicated in November 2009 and has been serving children, adolescents, and adults with Intellectual Disability, cerebral palsy, autism, and related dysfunctions. Under her care, more than 40,000 disabled people with various needs have been helped. And she also manages the medical centres, which cater to over 4500 patients every month. Her total dedication to the organization is visible since her entire time is devoted to this cause and her entire savings have been donated to the cause. Her sacrifices have been many in this field which has led her to make an impact on more than 32000 children and adults along with providing livelihood and new vocational training which have been acknowledged. Her efforts have created beautiful daycare and residential care centres in rural and urban with top-class facilities housing and taking care of nearly 600 children and adults in her facility and providing medical care which is totally free.

Dr. Chandra has established a high-class English medium educational program for the most marginalized children of the society with high-quality nutrition medical care living and recreational conditions perhaps not found anywhere in the country In addition to these Chandra Prasad has excelled in designing and implementing various vocational projects for the disabled including training placement sheltered employment and the marketing of products also assisting in project preparations and submission. Further, she has also involved herself in designing buildings for the disabled and other children working with the architect’s engineers, etc selecting materials, and management. She has successfully implemented a number of vocational projects for the Intellectually disabled for the first time in this country.

She was also instrumental in the organization of a large culinary and bakery exhibition project that has proven its commercial acceptability by various corporate groups organizations and individuals put together. She has received numerous awards from the State and National levels her great interest in the all-around development of children has ushered in the establishment of various activities which have contributed towards independence and employment of the disabled. Her unwearied and systematic application of all her mind and capacity to the various tasks on hand reflects her missionary zeal and enthusiasm.
