Arvind Krishna is the CEO of IBM, one of the world’s largest technology companies. In 2020, he was appointed as CEO of IBM, taking over from Ginni Rometty. He is the first person of Indian origin to lead the company. He has been instrumental in leading the company through a major transformation. And focusing on new growth areas such as cloud, AI, and hybrid cloud services.

Early Life

Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM, was born on October 11th, 1962 in the city of Kanpur, India. Kanpur, also known as Cawnpore, is a major industrial city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located on the banks of the Ganges River and is known for its rich history and cultural heritage.

He completed his education in Kanpur, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. He then moved to the United States to pursue higher education, earning a Master’s and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Growing up in Kanpur, he was surrounded by a vibrant community of engineers and scientists. Which helped shape his passion for technology from an early age. His success as CEO of IBM is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and ability to overcome the challenges he faced in his early days.

In 2012, he was appointed as the Senior Vice President and Director of IBM Research. Where he oversaw the company’s global research operations and was responsible for driving innovation and developing new technologies. Under his leadership, IBM Research made significant advancements in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cloud computing.

Career 

He began his career at IBM in 1990 as a Research Staff Member in the company’s Almaden Research Center. Over the next several decades, he held a number of leadership positions within the company. Including Vice President of IBM Research, and General Manager of IBM’s Systems and Technology Group. And Senior Vice President of IBM’s Cloud and Cognitive Software division.

Krishna began his career at IBM as a software engineer and quickly moved up the ranks. He held various leadership positions in IBM’s software division and played a key role in the development of IBM’s Linux and Java strategies. In 2009, he was appointed as the General Manager of IBM’s Systems. And Technology Group and was responsible for the development and manufacturing of IBM’s hardware systems.

Throughout his career at IBM, He has been instrumental in driving the company’s innovation and growth. He has led the development of several key technologies, including the IBM Blue Gene supercomputer and the IBM Watson artificial intelligence platform.

Role as CEO

In his role as CEO, He has focused on continuing IBM’s transformation into a leading cloud and AI company. He has emphasized the importance of open technology and partnerships and has also made strategic acquisitions to strengthen the company’s offerings in these areas.
