Marcus started his career as a pharmacist at a drugstore. Soon his interest shifted towards the retailing side of the business. He left the job and started working in a cosmetics company and tried his luck with the various other companies. After working, so hard in various companies, he made his way to the position of CEO of a company named Handy Dan improvement Centres.
The company was a Los Angeles based home improvement Store. In the year 1979, he was among the founding members of the home improvement store named the Home Depot, along with Arthur blank. They were also helped by merchandising expert Pat Farrah and even by investment banker Ken Langone.
They came up with a revolutionary idea of having a warehouse. Also, the business shooted to its highest peak and made the three main partners of the business billionaire of the company, and he held the position for 19 years. Marcus was also recognized with the junior achievement US Business Hall of Fame.
