The Meaning of “Aspire”
The term “aspire” originates from the Latin word “Aspirare,” which translates to “to breathe.” It carries a profound meaning that encompasses ambition and the pursuit of excellence. “Aspire” signifies a deep longing and determination to accomplish something significant, be it a goal, aspiration, or cherished dream.
Continuous learning is something that is required for being successful in any field.
Wondering how this is possible & whether learning in schools is sufficient? What else can you do to get more knowledge & experience?
All my life I have lived by a simple motto- (Kuch banne ke nahi, kuch karne ke sapne dekho)- Aspire not to become something but to do something.
‘Aspiring to do something‘ leads you, and ‘Aspiring to become something’ misleads you.
While school education is extremely important, training yourself to read more to learn more, gain hands-on experience, and develop social communication, creative and entrepreneurial skills are a great way to acquire more knowledge and become future-ready.
The Power of Reading
As children, you should be spending enough time Reading. Reading books may have become an old concept for today’s children as they are more inclined towards getting information on the Internet. Reading the newspaper, editorial page & blogs are fantastic but underrated methods of providing learning & staying up to date on today’s trends and current affairs. For example, recently in class, I asked my students what the name of the cyclone that recently passed Gujarat was. Everyone confidently answered- Biparjoy. However, when I asked what the original language and meaning of the word were, they were clueless. Had the students been reading the newspapers, they would be aware of the same.
Embracing Hands-On Experience
As children, you should seek hands-on experience. Internships, part-time jobs, and personal projects can help us apply what we learn in school to real-world situations. This will help us to develop our skills and knowledge, and it will also give us valuable insights into different fields. Some of my ex-students intern with me, and my goal is to always help them gain as much experience as they can in the real world. I make them do multiple tasks and do not just limit them to their job description so that they are prepared to perform well when they start working full-time.
Unleashing Social and Creative Skills
Developing social and creative skills is essential for life. Later on, when you start working, these skills would really help you. Collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation are all essential skills in today’s world. We can develop these skills by participating in activities that encourage teamwork and creativity. Joining clubs or organizations is a great way to meet like-minded people and learn from their experiences.
Harnessing the Digital Resources
There is a plethora of educational blogs & resources, and certificate courses available online- how to find & pick the right one is in your hands. We can find online courses, certificate programs, and blogs that can help us to learn new skills and knowledge. We should choose reputable and relevant resources to ensure that we are getting the most out of our learning.
We should take charge of our own learning journey by creating opportunities for ourselves. This means seeking challenges, pursuing personal projects, and learning from failures and setbacks. We should embrace a growth mindset that fuels continuous development.
