Tata Sons wins bid for Air India

Tata Sons have won the final bid for acquiring national carrier Air India.

As per reports, Tata Sons had submitted the final bid for Air India on September 15 and emerged as the frontrunner to acquire the national carrier Air India.

As per ‘Moneycontrol’, the Tatas have placed the highest bid and the official decision on the winning bid will be taken in the next few days.

A report in the Indian Express stated that the government is yet to formally approve Tata’s winning bid, confirming that the Mumbai-based conglomerate had placed a bid that was Rs 5,000 cr more than the bid of SpiceJet promoter Ajay Singh, who participated in the bidding process.

It is further said that the government plans to complete the handover of the airlines to its new owners by December.

An official announcement is likely to come after the Air India Specific Alternate Mechanism (AISAM), headed by Home Minister Amit Shah, ratifies the winning bid.
