Seeding the idea

Speaking on her company and the idea behind it, she says, “I was born and married into a business family and hence I have witnessed what it takes to run and develop a business. When I was studying Microbiology and used to see pharmaceutical factories on my way to Ahmedabad, I always use to dream about establishing a factory on my own or working with an industry that is stalwart in the field. However back in London I worked with a well-known nutraceutical industry and realized that I was born for challenges and only challenges kept me alive which can only be possible when you are your own destiny writer.”

The NDF Worksphere

Her company, NDF, innovates and manufactures 100% Vegetable Based, Instant Beverage Premixes formulated using freeze-drying technology for Millennials, Working professionals, and Senior Citizens dwelling in urban topography suffering from Inflammatory, Non-Communicable Diseases like Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, Cancer, and Obesity. With over 10 patent products to its name, NDF has commercialized its 3 innovative beverages namely NDF – Dudhi/Lauki Jaljeera, NDF – Amrit Jara, and NDF – Veggie Oat Soup. Presently NDF Products are present on leading e-commerce platforms and in 10 physical stores in Ahmedabad and are developing export channels to UAE, EU, and the UK. Innovation at the time of need

Mrs. Arpita Doshi’s successful company all started after she turned to innovation even during one of the most challenging periods of her life. The idea can come any moment but determination is what shapes an idea to purpose and that came. She spent 26 days on ventilator fighting for her survival. “Those 26 days were just the tip the whole iceberg was in rehabilitation journey that hindered my quality of life,” she recalls. During her rehab journey, she was advised to consume natural vegetable juice that would reduce the inflammatory response (acidity and bloating was often a side effect of the heavy medication administered during ill health), However she was meant with a problem: Making nutritious and healthy juices every day seemed almost impossible for a 9-5 worker like herself.

When her father-in-law saw her journey in throws, he said, ”You have studied biotechnology why don’t you find some solution to your everyday problem?” That’s how she spearheaded to find a solution formulated 16 products in a span of 1 year.

Business growth and accolades

In 2016 NDF formulated 16 products and applied for patent rights on 10 products by the end of 2018 we received patent publish status after which the company started to roll out the products in the market. Within 1 year of commercialization, NDF fetchedphenomenal sales of INR 4 lakhs.

On talking about the company’s competitors, Mrs. Doshi remains optimistic and says that NDF stands out from other artificial flavored drinks in the market with close to zero nutritional value. Her vision for the next 5 years is to become a multi-million dollar company and to become 100% ethical and environmental friendly.

Apart from its unique and one-of-a-kind product, NDF boasts a strong and diligent team of workers. Mrs. Doshi says she provides freedom to express to all employees as well as conducts personal one-on-one meetings to address concerns to build worker-morale.

With several accolades to its name, international and national, NDF has even received funding from the Gujarat Government under the umbrella, “Gujarat State-Funded Startup”.

Some successes cannot be measured but only its impact can be seen. During the pandemic, when many people developed the flavor for home cooking and baking, NDF posted many innovative and free recipes that are not only nutritious but also adhering to their mission translating traditional foods chemistry to convenient food. To name a few, wheat Dalila carrot cake, zesty chocolate orange cake, barely momos, and many such are published on the NDF.

Life outside work

Mrs. Doshi is also particular about having a flourishing outside her thriving business. She likes to cook, garden, drive and read scientific articles and papers. On asked if she’d rather be good at a lot of things or an expert at one thing, she says without a moment’s hesitance.”I believe if you want to be successful you need to be focused and hence focusing on one thing at a time makes you productive unlike focusing on multiple things.”

However, her successful business stop today has not come without any hard work or pure determination and effort- she says that the pandemic was a really challenging time for her, where she was working for nearly 17 hours at a stretch to ensure better efficiency of her business.
