My name is Sweta Singh, and today I stand proudly as a Financial Literacy Trainer,
Founder of Gyaan Roots, An initiative built with the purpose of making financial literacy simple, practical and accessible for everyone. But before I entered the world of finance and personal money management, I spent nearly two decades in a completely different profession — teaching mathematics.
I was born into a middle-class family where education was the highest value we lived by. That belief shaped my identity, my habits and eventually my purpose. I completed my M.Sc. in Mathematics and B.Ed. from St. Xavier’s Institute of Education, Mumbai, and started my career as a mathematics educator. For 19 years, I taught 11th and 12th-grade students across ICSE, CBSE and Maharashtra boards. I loved every bit of it. Teaching gave me stability, fulfilment and pride. I never imagined stepping out of that path.
But life has a way of showing us our calling through gaps we quietly notice.
Over the years, I repeatedly observed something that bothered me deeply – even the brightest students, and often even fellow teachers, struggled with basic financial concepts. These students could solve complex calculus with ease, yet budgeting, savings, compounding and investing felt confusing or intimidating. Young adults stepped into the real world unprepared for financial decision-making. Families made money decisions without clarity or awareness. It wasn’t a lack of intelligence; it was a lack of exposure. Financial literacy was simply missing from everyday life.
That realisation became the turning point of my journey.
At the age of 40, I made a bold and life-changing decision. I decided to reinvent myself and enter the world of Personal Finance. It meant stepping into a new field, a new professional identity and a new learning curve. Leaving behind a successful teaching career was not easy, but the desire to create meaningful change was stronger than the fear of starting over.
My transition into Personal Finance & Money matters began with Right Value Services, a boutique wealth management firm. The more I worked & discussed Personal Finance & money matters with people , The more I understood how deeply money influences people’s choices, opportunities, relationships, stress and self-esteem. Personal Finance is not just about numbers; it is about behaviour science . I wanted to build a career not around selling financial products, but around empowering people with financial WellBeing .
To strengthen my foundation, I pursued and earned the prestigious CFP® (Certified Financial Planner) designation, along with NISM certification. I also began exploring Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to understand human behaviour on a deeper level. Through this learning, I realised that true financial freedom depends not only on earning money but also on mindset, habits and disciplined action.
This passion evolved into my entrepreneurial identity – Gyaan Roots.

Who I Serve and What Sets Me Apart
I am based in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, and my programs cater to institutions, organizations and individuals across India. My clients choose Gyaan Roots because of my ability to connect financial concepts with real-life emotions and mindset. I simplify personal finance in a way that makes people feel confident rather than judged. Financial anxiety reduces when financial awareness increases – that belief drives my work every day.
Challenges, Growth and Reinvention
The most challenging part of my journey was letting go of the comfort and identity of a stable teaching career to step into an unfamiliar industry. Reinventing myself at 40 required courage, patience and resilience. Slowly, with learning and consistency, the new foundation became stronger. Today, I do not just teach mathematics – I teach life skills. Work–life balance has never been a struggle for me because I believe true balance lies in giving mindful attention to the moment you are in. Outside of professional work, I find joy in cooking, travelling and staying connected to meaningful experiences. I am closely associated with a school in Uttarkashi, where my husband is a Trustee, and I continue teaching Mathematics to students there. That connection keeps my love for education alive.
Recognition and What Success Means to Me
I have been honoured with the Leadership Excellence Award – Financial Literacy Educator of the Year. My article has also been published in Forum Views Magazine, and each recognition strengthens my belief in my mission.
Success for me is not defined by business scale alone.
My success is rooted in the positive change I bring to people’s financial and personal well-being. When someone tells me that they feel in control of their money for the first time, that their financial stress has reduced or that they now believe they can build a secure future, I measure that as my true achievement.
Inspiration, Mantra and Future Vision
My biggest source of inspiration is my husband, who always believes in moving forward with consistency. From him, I have learned that progress is not defined by speed but by commitment.
My success mantra is simple: Learning empowers you.
At present, I am preparing for additional NISM certifications and planning to pursue M.A. in Psychology to integrate financial literacy with emotional intelligence even more deeply.
In the next decade, I want to see Gyaan Roots shaping financial awareness across India, especially among children, youngsters and women. Money should not feel like a subject of confusion or stress – it should feel like a tool of confidence and independence.
Message to Entrepreneurs and Young Dreamers
If I were to leave one message for others, it would be this:
Courageous reinvention is always possible. Your second career can be as beautiful and successful as your first – sometimes even more. Learning truly empowers us. When we learn, we evolve. When we evolve, we lead.
My story is not just about switching careers. It is about purpose, transformation and the belief that knowledge can change lives – including your own.
