At a time when sustainability is moving from a niche concern to a business imperative, Ayushi Lakum and Harmish Lakum are among the young entrepreneurs seeking to align enterprise with environmental responsibility. Through Zarya, they represent a generation that views sustainability not as a marketing trend but as a framework for innovation and long-term value creation.
How Two Young Entrepreneurs Turned Family Values into a Fashion Brand
Some businesses are created to fill a gap in the market. Others are born from something far more personal—a dream, a promise, and a deep sense of purpose. For siblings Ayushi Lakum and Harmish Lakum, entrepreneurship began with a simple desire: to bring their mother’s long-cherished dream to life.
Young Minds, One Shared Vision
Ayushi Lakum, a Sustainable Fashion and Textile Design student at Anant National University, and Harmish Lakum, an MBA postgraduate, combined their creativity, passion, and business knowledge to build something meaningful together. Their shared goal was to honour their mother’s vision while celebrating Indian craftsmanship.
The Birth of Zarya

In March 2026, the siblings launched Zarya, a home-grown ethnic wear brand rooted in tradition, craftsmanship, and family values. The brand specializes in pure cotton and silk garments enhanced with traditional techniques such as mirror work, appliqué work, and Kutchi embroidery.
Preserving Heritage Through Fashion
For Ayushi, fashion is more than aesthetics. Her design philosophy focuses on sustainability, storytelling, and preserving India’s rich textile heritage. Through Zarya, she seeks to create garments that connect modern women with traditional craftsmanship.
Building with Purpose
While Ayushi leads the creative direction, Harmish contributes strategic thinking and responsible business practices. Together, they are building a brand that balances tradition with innovation and cultural preservation with business growth.
More Than a Brand
Zarya is more than an ethnic wear label. It is the story of a family dream, a mother’s inspiration, and two young entrepreneurs determined to create something meaningful. Every design reflects the values, love, and dedication that inspired the brand.
Looking Ahead
As Zarya continues to grow, Ayushi and Harmish remain committed to celebrating Indian craftsmanship, supporting traditional artisans, and creating timeless fashion that helps people stay connected to their roots.
