A Journey from Gold Medalist Gynecologist to IVF Specialist, Healthcare Entrepreneur and Medical Educator

The Foundation: A Journey Built on Academic Excellence

Dr. Shital Punjabi’s medical journey began at NHL Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad. She completed her MBBS in 1992, followed by her D.G.O. in 1994 and M.D. in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1996. Her academic performance was exceptional, earning her Gold Medals in both D.G.O. and M.D.

But for Dr. Punjabi, earning medical degrees was never the finish line. It was only the beginning.

As medicine continued to evolve, she deliberately expanded her knowledge into specialised areas of women’s healthcare. She received training in ultrasonography through FOGSI and later travelled to the United States for specialised training in IVF and embryology at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.

Her curiosity also extended beyond medicine itself. In 2022, she completed an MBA from ICFAI, adding business and management knowledge to her medical expertise. In 2025, she further strengthened her professional credentials by receiving FICOG from FOGSI.

This continuous pursuit of education became one of the defining characteristics of her career.

1997: The Beginning of a Long Clinical Journey

In 1997, Dr. Punjabi began practising gynecology at Shashwat Hospital. What started as a clinical career gradually expanded into a much broader journey across gynecology, laparoscopic surgery, reproductive medicine and cosmetic gynecology.

She has been involved in gynecological laparoscopy since 1997 and entered the field of IVF in 2004. Rather than looking at women’s healthcare as a collection of separate medical specialties, she developed an approach centred on understanding the woman as a whole.

For her, fertility, pregnancy, gynecological health, hormonal changes and personal well-being are interconnected parts of a woman’s life.

That broader perspective would eventually become a defining feature of her work.

Finding Her Calling in Fertility Care

Fertility treatment is rarely just about medical procedures.

For couples struggling to conceive, the journey can involve years of uncertainty, emotional stress, disappointment and countless questions. Dr. Punjabi’s experience with thousands of couples helped her understand that successful fertility care requires much more than technology.

It requires patience, communication, empathy and trust.

After receiving specialised training in IVF and embryology at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, she continued developing her expertise in reproductive medicine and worked towards bringing advanced fertility care to patients in India.

Over the course of her career, she has served more than 5,000 couples seeking fertility care and has been associated with more than 5,000 deliveries.

Behind every number is a personal story-a couple waiting to become parents, a mother welcoming a child or a family beginning a completely new chapter of life.

That human connection remains at the heart of her philosophy.

Building Shashwat IVF: Turning Experience into an Institution

In 2009, Dr. Shital Punjabi became the Founding Director of Shashwat IVF Centre Pvt. Ltd. Her vision was to create a healthcare centre where advanced fertility treatment could exist alongside personalised and compassionate patient care.

Over time, Shashwat IVF & Women’s Hospital developed into a comprehensive centre for fertility and women’s healthcare in Ahmedabad.

Its areas of care include IVF, IUI, infertility treatment, fertility preservation, egg freezing, gynecology, maternity services, laparoscopic procedures, PCOS treatment, cosmetic gynecology, menopause care and painless delivery services.

But Dr. Punjabi’s vision was never simply about building infrastructure or adding medical technology.

It was about building confidence.

For someone going through fertility treatment, knowing that the doctor understands their concerns can be just as important as the medical procedure itself. Her patient-first philosophy has therefore remained central to the way she approaches healthcare.

Beyond IVF: A Wider Vision for Women’s Health

Although IVF became one of the most important chapters of Dr. Punjabi’s career, her work has never been limited to fertility.

She has developed extensive experience in gynecological laparoscopy and cosmetic gynecology, while continuing to work across different stages of women’s healthcare. She has performed more than 2,000 major gynecological laparoscopic surgeries during her career.

Her work in cosmetic gynecology, which she has pursued since 2016, further expanded her understanding of women’s health.

This broader approach comes from a simple belief: women’s healthcare should not begin and end with one particular medical condition.

A woman’s health journey changes with age and circumstances. Fertility may be one chapter, pregnancy another, followed by hormonal changes, menopause and other aspects of physical and emotional well-being.

Dr. Punjabi’s career reflects this continuity.

Bringing Knowledge Beyond the Clinic

For Dr. Punjabi, contributing to healthcare means more than treating patients.

She is also the Co-founder of MEDGURU, a digital learning platform focused on medical education. The initiative reflects her interest in using technology to make professional learning more accessible to the medical community.

She is also a partner at Arnee Lifescience LLP and the Founding Trustee of Shashwat Foundation.

These initiatives reveal another side of her professional journey: the belief that healthcare can be improved not only through patient treatment, but also by creating institutions, educational opportunities and platforms through which knowledge can be shared.

Her influence therefore extends beyond the consultation room.

From Doctor to Leader

Over the years, Dr. Punjabi has also taken on leadership responsibilities within professional and social organisations.

She has served as President – India–Eastern USA Business Council at WICCI, Treasurer of the ISAR Gujarat Chapter, and Gujarat President – Medical Cell, International Human Rights Protection Bureau. She has also been associated with organisations including FOGSI, IMA, ISAR, IFS and IMS.

Her professional expertise has taken her to national and international conferences as a speaker and visiting faculty. She has participated in professional platforms across India as well as Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

These opportunities have allowed her to share knowledge, exchange ideas and contribute to wider discussions around women’s health and reproductive medicine.

For Dr. Punjabi, leadership is not simply about occupying a position.

It is about using experience to contribute to the larger healthcare community.

The Challenge of Staying Ahead

Medicine never stands still.

New technologies emerge, treatment protocols change and patients become increasingly informed. For a doctor with more than three decades of experience, staying relevant requires a willingness to learn continuously.

Dr. Punjabi’s professional journey demonstrates exactly that mindset.

Her career has moved from gynecology to laparoscopy, from IVF to cosmetic gynecology, from clinical medicine to business management and from patient care to medical education.

Each new chapter has added another dimension to her understanding of healthcare.

Her journey demonstrates an important lesson: experience becomes more powerful when it is combined with continuous learning.

The Human Side of Fertility Care

Behind every fertility treatment is a human story.

Some couples have waited for years. Some arrive after experiencing repeated disappointments. Others begin treatment with hope but also uncertainty about what lies ahead.

This is why Dr. Punjabi’s patient-first philosophy matters.

Technology and advanced medical procedures can support fertility treatment, but compassion helps patients navigate the emotional journey surrounding it. For Dr. Punjabi, the doctor-patient relationship is built on trust, communication and understanding.

Her approach is therefore not simply about treating a medical condition.

It is about helping patients feel heard and supported while they move through one of the most important journeys of their lives.

A Career Measured in Lives, Not Just Numbers

More than 5,000 couples served, 5,000-plus deliveries and more than 2,000 major laparoscopic surgeries are impressive professional milestones.

But numbers alone cannot describe the full impact of a medical career.

Every delivery represents a family.

Every fertility success represents hope fulfilled.

Every surgery represents a patient who placed their trust in her hands.

That is perhaps why Dr. Punjabi’s career is best understood not through statistics alone, but through the thousands of lives that have been touched by her work.

The Entrepreneurial Side of Healthcare

Dr. Punjabi’s journey also demonstrates how medical expertise can evolve into entrepreneurship and institution building.

Creating Shashwat IVF required more than clinical knowledge. It required an understanding of people, systems, management, technology and long-term healthcare needs.

Her MBA added another layer to this journey, while her involvement with MEDGURU, Arnee Lifescience LLP and Shashwat Foundation reflects a continuing interest in building platforms beyond traditional clinical practice.

This combination of medicine and entrepreneurship has allowed her to expand her impact beyond the number of patients she can personally see.

Looking Ahead

After more than three decades in medicine, Dr. Shital Punjabi continues to work at the intersection of clinical care, reproductive medicine, technology, education and leadership.

Her journey-from medical student and Gold Medalist to gynecologist, IVF specialist, cosmetic gynecologist, entrepreneur, educator and healthcare leader-has been shaped by one consistent quality: the willingness to evolve.

Shashwat IVF represents one part of her vision. MEDGURU represents another. Her professional leadership and social initiatives add further dimensions to her contribution.

As women’s healthcare continues to evolve, the future will increasingly depend on advanced reproductive medicine, personalised treatment, technology and better access to knowledge.

Dr. Punjabi’s career reflects all of these directions.

Lessons from Dr. Shital Punjabi’s Journey

Keep learning. A medical degree can open the door, but continuous education keeps a professional relevant.

Combine expertise with empathy. Healthcare is not only about technology and procedures; patients also need understanding and emotional support.

Look beyond one specialty. Women’s health is a lifelong journey, and understanding its different stages can create more comprehensive care.

Turn knowledge into institutions. Building platforms such as Shashwat IVF and MEDGURU allows expertise to reach beyond one doctor’s individual practice.

Evolve with the times. From laparoscopy and IVF to cosmetic gynecology, an MBA and digital medical education, Dr. Punjabi has continued adapting to changing healthcare needs.

Measure success through impact. The true value of a medical career is ultimately reflected in the lives improved, families supported and knowledge shared.

A Legacy Still Being Written

Dr. Shital Punjabi’s story is not simply the story of a doctor who spent more than three decades in medicine.

It is the story of continuous evolution.

She began with academic excellence, developed her clinical expertise, entered reproductive medicine, built a fertility and women’s healthcare institution, embraced entrepreneurship, contributed to medical education and took on leadership roles within the wider healthcare community.

More than qualifications and titles, her journey represents a philosophy: keep learning, keep caring and keep creating ways to make healthcare better.

Because ultimately, healthcare is not only about treating a condition.

It is about helping people move forward-with greater confidence, better care and renewed hope.
